I took this in Bali. A psychotic man had cruelly kept exotic animals for decades at his home, anything from dozens birds to otters to 2 large deers, a box full of turtle and 5 adult tigers, lions and lionesses in an area the size of a courtyard. This lioness has an eye disease yet nothing has ever been done to fix it. The owner admitted to me that he had kept them in there for longer than 10 years hardly ever to see whats past the rusted bars of their cages. He kept them as “trophy animals” to show his power and corruption. I watched her pace back and forth, back and forth. In a cage no bigger than a car. Eager for me to let her out. I couldn’t do anything but let you know this. Animal cruelty still exists and it might just be around the corner from your villa in Bali. Who knows. I hope you’ve taken the time to read this. Merry Christmas 1966

My room, my toys, what the world looked like back then. My parents, my grandparents. I was “le petit prince”. Berlin in the late sixties. Mies van der Rohe buildings. One of our neighbours was french. I loved Land Rovers from day one. I remember one parking in front of the Reichstag. Days were grey. Life was boring these days. I didn’t want to grow up, because I didn’t want to live in a world like this as an adult. I killed a Gummi Bear once. I wanted to know, what they look like inside. He was green. I made him suffer. It made me feel bad. I threw him over the balcony. I never told anyone.
